A LOOK AT OUR
Ages 2 -3 and a half
Watch out! These kids are moving, climbing, exploring and playing. They are always curious and ready to embark on new adventures. Our "home- away- from- home" provides a safe and engaging environment focusing on sensory and social development through music, outdoor learning, art, and active play. Our teachers focus on building trusting relationships with individual children fostering secure attachments in a nurturing environment.
Ages 3 and a half -4
Look closely. These kids are gaining confidence in their skills and abilities. They are engaging the world with their whole bodies and finding joy in each new activity they can complete independently. Our teachers allow time for each child to work at their own pace providing opportunities for kids to take risks and have new experiences. This program focuses on developing self-esteem allowing for kids to experience success by working through challenges.
Children are introduced to concepts in literacy, mathematics, science, history, and humanities through project based learning activities that are both student and teacher led. Students gain a strong understanding of core academic concepts through interactive play and creative arts. Through our interactive city students have unique experiences that support social and emotional development with a strong emphases on learning about our global communities, nature, and citizenship.
Ages 4 -5
Listen! These kids have ideas, are asking questions, and seeking knowledge. They are observing everything and will often surprise you by what they remember. They are articulate and full of curiosity. They know all things but don't let that stop you from helping them discover new concepts!
Our program at this level goes beyond fundamentals and teaches kids the skills to be inventors, leaders, and artists as they tackle real world (age-appropriate) problems. A focus is put on imaginative play which leads to the discovery of interests and increased development of interpersonal skills. Teachers, parents, and children work together to create an individualized learning plan as children prepare for Kindergarten.
Ages 5 -6
Be amazed! These kids are invested in their work and eager to take their projects to the next level. They yearn for opportunities that will challenge them. They are mess makers with purpose. They explore, record, and make hypothesis. They want to know more, learn more, and experience everything.
In Kindergarten are programs focus on collaboration and empowerment. We continue to implement each child’s individualized learning plan into student projects so they are challenged in meaningful ways. They continue to build on concepts in literacy, mathematics, science, history, and humanities through creative arts and hands on activities. Students in Kindergarten are given more opportunities to interact with the diverse city of Los Angeles through in-person and virtual field trips.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Imagination Destination Challenge
Pre K - 12th Grade
Destination Imagination's purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning and Early Learning are offered. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables students to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation while fostering their creativity, courage and curiosity. Academic tournaments take place around the world where teams have the opportunity to present their solutions to trained appraisers. Students have fun and gain confidence in their ability to solve any challenge. In working to solve our Challenges, teams learn 21st century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage), step outside of their comfort zones to pursue ideas and make presentations, and build on their unique strengths.
