What's an "Immersion" Program?
Simply put: an "immersion" program places Students in an environment that is fully immersed in the experience of a new language in a safe, patient, and fun way. All Students learn to communicate in our immersion program for roughly half of the school day when our Teachers speak, sing, and play games with Students almost entirely in Spanish.
Why is a language immersion program important in early childhood education?
The benefits of a child learning a second language have been linked to increased critical thinking and problem solving skills, higher scores on both verbal and mathematical standardized tests, greater creativity, global competency… and the list goes on (ACTFL, 2007).
The earlier a child learns a second language the better they will master pronunciation and intonation. Studies show that children between birth to age 6 have the easiest time learning a new language. At this age range a child's brain is the most flexible, allowing for a rapid growth of complex connections. As children continue to grow, the connections in our brain which are not being developed are pruned. If instead those connections are nourished, the brain will continue to develop in those areas of focus making learning a second language later on in life much easier.
How will my child learn a new language?
Children learn best by doing. For half the day our kids engage in a fun environment when Spanish is spoken 90-100% of the time. Children are dancing, singing, playing games, putting on puppet shows, and tasting new foods. They learn Spanish through repetition and from very engaging teachers!
