Science
“Science makes people reach selflessly for truth and objectivity; it teaches people to accept reality with wonder and admiration.” – Lisa Meitner
Understanding how the world works and why are questions we carry with us from infancy to adulthood. At City Kids we follow CA Next Generation Science Standards while placing an emphasis on environmental studies. Students connect with nature while learning about the scientific method through hands-on experiments and observation from preschool to elementary school.
Preschool
In Preschool our teachers find great joy in using emergent curricula to meet our children’s needs to understand and connect with the world around them. Weekly field trips connect City Kids students to what they are studying, from visiting a butterfly garden to brushing horses at The Gentle Barn. Our children are natural-born scientists and it is our job to keep the flame of curiosity and wonder burning ever bright.
Elementary
Elementary school students gain a deeper understanding of the world around them through our inquiry-based programs where they define what they know about a subject and then ask questions to further their investigations. They learn to create experiments, record data, and reflect on what they have learned. As students grasp the scientific method they are encouraged to discuss and debate topics, challenging their own thinking and learning to work together as a team to uncover answers and create new hypotheses.
